Surah Alam Nashrah Chapter: 94 - Juzz - 30

This blog is part of a series of blogs based on my research and compilation of surahs of the Quran, in an effort to understand these surahs in an easy way. Today's effort is on Surah Alam Nashrah Chapter: 94, hope going through it will be a learning journey for all of you. May Allah forgive any mistake, omission, or error on my part in its compilation (Aameen Summa Aameen).

Introduction:

Surah Alam Nashrah, also known as Surah Ash-Sharh or Surah Al-Inshirah, is the 94th Surah and found in the 30th Juzz (Para) of the Holy Quran. This Surah contains 8 verses, 1 Ruku, 27 words with 23 unique words without any repetition, and 102 letters, and it is revealed in “Makka” so-referred to as the “Makki” Surah. And this surah is called The Opening Forth. The Surah holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims due to its comforting and uplifting message. Surah Alam Nashrah is named after the first word of the surah, “Alam Nashrah,” which translates to “Did We not expand?” The surah addresses the Prophet Muhammad, reassuring him during times of hardship and giving him solace. It also contains general guidance for all believers who may experience difficulties in life.

Composition of Surah Alam Nashrah; Surah Alam Nashrah is composed of three parts,

Ø  Mentioning three blessings granted to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): opening his breast, relieving his burdens, and exalting him.

Ø  Giving him the satisfied tiding that ease accompanies hardships.

Ø  Making his steps firm in continuing to pursue goals to please Allah.

Lessons from the Surah Alam Nashrah

In this Surah, Allah addresses the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and it is believed to be a reminder of the support and guidance that Allah provided to him during a difficult time in his life. Allah has said the burden on the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) heart and expanded his chest, a metaphor for removing his stress and worries. The sense of ease, peace, and comfort provided to him is also said to be a reminder that Allah is always there to help and support us during difficult times and that He will remove our burdens if we turn to have faith in Him. Here are the few lessons for us in this Surah,

Ø  Difficulties and hardships are a natural part of human life, and Allah is with us during these times.

Ø  Having faith and trust in Allah during difficulties, knowing He is the only one who can provide true relief and comfort.

Ø  We can gain spiritual growth and development through difficulties and challenges.

Ø  The importance of gratitude and thankfulness to Allah, even during times of hardship, as He is the one who ultimately controls our destiny.

Ø  The outcome of all actions is in the hands of Allah, and he ultimately determines success and failure.

Ø  Quran guides humanity and contains guidance for all aspects of life.

Ø  The ultimate end of human life is the Day of judgment, and we should always be prepared for it.

Ø  Seek refuge in Allah from the difficulties of this life and the punishment of the hereafter.

Theme of Surah Alam Nashrah: This chapter is a powerful reminder of the blessings and ease that Allah provides for His believers during times of hardship and struggle. The name “Alam Nashrah” translates to “The Opening” or “The Expansion,” which reflects the theme of the Surah – that after every difficulty comes ease.

Main message of Surah Alam Nashrah:

The main message of Surah Alam Nashrah is to describe the exalted state of Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him before Allah SWT. In the meanwhile, Allah Almighty Consoles His believers with two repeated verses. Then Allah Almighty calls his bondsmen towards him.

Benefits of Surah Alam Nashrah

Surah Alam Nashrah, also known as Surah Ash-Sharh or the Chapter of Relief, is a short but powerful chapter from the Holy Quran. Its profound message resonates deeply with those seeking comfort during times of difficulty and hardship. By reciting Surah Alam Nashrah regularly with sincerity and understanding its meaning, we can experience an array of physical and spiritual benefits such as stress relief, healing of ailments, increased tranquility, improved focus in prayer, enhanced memory retention, and protection from evil.

Virtues of Reciting Surah Alam Nashrah:

Remove Sorrows

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) said: “One who recites Surah Alam Nashrah is similar to the one who has met Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and if in a state of grief, Allah will remove his sorrows.”

Favor on the Day of Judgement

Imam Sadiq (May Allah bless him) said: “He who repeatedly recites surah Alam Nashrah during day and night, all his body parts will testify in his favor on the Day of Judgment.”

Will Die as a Martyr

Imam Baqir (May Allah bless him) narrated about the reciter of surah Alam Nashrah. “He who recites Surah Alam Nashrah during day and night will die as a martyr and be revived as a martyr and resembles one who fights in the way of Allah with his sword along with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).”

Equivalent to meeting Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) says in a hadith, “One who recites Surah Alam Nashrah is similar to the one who has met prophet Muhammad (PBUH), and if in a state of grief, God would remove his sorrows.”

Conclusion: Theme and Subject Matter. The aim and object of this Surah too is to console and encourage the Holy Messenger (upon whom be Allah's peace). Surah Alam-Nashrah is in the 30th Juzz of the Quran. It is a beautiful Surah, which has many benefits both monetarily and spiritually. Its recitation relieves grief and tension. It relieves the heart and chest pain of the reciter. The surah serves as a reminder to believers that after every hardship comes ease, and that Allah will never burden a soul with more than it can bear. It encourages individuals to remain patient and steadfast in the face of adversity, knowing that relief and solace will eventually come.
