declaration of innocence from shirk and Kufr. That's why prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) recited it more often, day and night. it is a clear declaration of the
oneness of Allah & the truthfulness of Islam.
Introduction
This chapter was revealed in the Meccan period before
Hijra to
Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It is one of the small surahs of the 30th Juzz'. This
chapter instructs the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to inform the disbelievers that
the worship of false deities and the worship of One God are not and can never
be, compatible. It takes its name from “the disbelievers” (Al-Kafirun)
mentioned in the first verse. 'Al-Kafirun' is an Arabic word that means: the
disbelievers. The Surah is named Al-Kafirun as it mainly teaches the Prophet
(PBUH) how to respond to the polytheists in Makkah
It is authentically narrated from the Prophet Muhammad
(pbuh) that he would recite this chapter and Surat al-Ikhlas in the Sunnah
prayers of Fajr and Maghrib as well as in the two rak’ahs after the tawaf
around the aaba.
Why
It Was Revealed
This surah was revealed when some chieftains of Makkah
Mukarma, including Waleed bin Mughirah as bin Wail, etc., proposed peace to
Muhammad, peace be upon him, that one year you worship our gods, and the next
year we worship the will your god. In addition, they wanted him to stop
criticizing their gods and calling them false. The chapter was a response to
these nobles and Allah responded to them by sending down this chapter of the
Qur’an to His final prophet.
Reason
for this Surah:
The basic reason of Surah Al-Kafirun is the
declaration of innocence from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and Kufr

religion -Islam- is the only true one, in which Allah wouldn’t accept any
other. Any concessions in the religion of Allah are not allowed, and that should
be clear to every Muslim. Each Muslim should be aware of the differences
between his own belief and non-Muslims and ‘Kafirun’ beliefs. There should be
clear discrimination in order not to get confused. Moreover, Muslims should
declare their own identity without timidity or shyness unless they fear being
harmed
