Today's effort is on Surah Al-Kauthar Chapter-108, hope going through it will be a learning journey for all of you. May Allah forgive any mistake, omission, or error on my part in its compilation (Aameen Summa Aameen).

Background of Surah Al Kauthar:

Surah Kauthar (Arabic text: ٱلكَوْثَر) is the 108th Surah of the Qur'an. It is titled in English “Abundant Good” and composed of 3 verses. Inspirational Quote: “So pray to your Lord and sacrifice [to Him alone].”. This Surah was revealed in an especially difficult time in the life of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), for it was the time the enemies of the prophet used to call him Abtar which mean the one cut off due to the fact that both of his male children from Hazrat Khadija (RA) had passed away. Meaning of the name Kauthar is: A river in Paradise. Al-Kauthar has two meanings: 1- It is a river in Paradise which Allah has given to His Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), 2- It is a great cistern – a tank for holding water – which will be set up in the place of gathering on the Day of Resurrection, to which the ummah of Prophet Muhammad. There are 114 surahs in the Quran, each divided into Ayat (verses). These surahs are of unequal length; the shortest surah (al-Kauthar) has only three verses.

When it was Revealed:

According to Ibn Ishaq, it is an earlier Meccan surah, which is believed to have been revealed in Mecca, sometime before the Isra and Mi'raj. The reason for the revelation of Surah Al-Kawthar was in response to the false claim made by Al-As ibn Wail, a leader of the Quraysh, that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) had been cut off from having male offspring and that he would not have any descendants. This surah was therefore revealed, comforting the Prophet and assuring him of the abiding and profuse goodness which Allah had chosen for him and of the deprivation and loss awaiting his persecutors.

The main theme of Surah Al-Kauthar is to console the Prophet (s.a.w.) and to give him reassurance that he is blessed with limitless spiritual abundance. Moral lessons of suratul kauthar is that Allah taught His Prophet (PBUH) to praise him by performing salat (prayer) and sacrifice (slaughter) for the sake of Allah. A Muslim should perform both forms of praising Allah (SWT).
