SURAH AL – NASR Chapter 110

This blog is part of a series of blogs based on my research and compilation of Surahs of Quran, in an effort to understand these surahs in an easy way. Today's effort is on SURAH AL-NASR Chapter: 110, hope going through it will be a learning journey for all of you. May Allah forgive any mistake, omission or error on my part in its compilation (Aameen Summa Aameen).

Introduction:

Surah An-Nasr is the 110th surah (chapter) of The Glorious Quran. Name of the surah means The Help. It has 3 ayats (verses) and was revealed in the holy city of Medina i.e., after Prophet ﷺ migrated to the city of Medina. This surah can be found in Juzz / Paara 30. This Surah carries a message of divine victory and the power of Allah's help. It provides essential lessons on gratitude, humility, and the role of divine guidance in the triumph of Islam. According to Tafsir ibn Kathir, this surah is equal to 1/4 of the Quran. This was the last surah to be revealed, only a few months before Muhammad's death. It is also known as Surah at-Tawdee', or 'the Farewell Surah'. It is One of the shortest surahs in the holy Quran. It’s the last surah revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) to inform him about the victory of Islam and that he has completed his mission. After Muslims conquered Mecca, many people entered Islam. And all of this was mentioned in Surah Nasr.

Background:

The surah praises Allah for leading numerous people to Islam. This surah is also known as "The Victory" as in the victory of Islam as it refers to the conquest of Mecca where Muslims beat the enemies of Islam. This surah talks about the very same battle.

Period of Revelation:

This Medinian surah was revealed close to the end of the Prophet's life, instructing him that once his mission is complete and his message is embraced by many, he (ﷺ) should be ready to meet his Creator. A deterring example of those who rejected his message is given in the next surah.

Hadrat Abdullah bin Abbas states that this is the last Surah of the Quran to be revealed, i.e. no complete Surah was sent down to the Holy Prophet after it. (Muslim Nasai, Tabarani, Ibn Abi Shaibah, Ibn Marduyah). According to Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar, this Surah was sent down on the occasion of the Farewell Pilgrimage in the middle of the Tashriq Days at Mina, and after it the Holy Prophet rode his she camel and gave his well-known Sermon. It appears that there was an interval of three months and some days between the revelation of Surah An-Nasr and the Holy Prophet's death,

Theme and Subject Matter:

Allah in this Surah had informed His Messenger (upon whom be peace) that when Islam attained complete victory in Arabia and the people started entering Allah’s religion in great numbers, it would mean that the mission for which he had been sent to the world, had been fulfilled. Then, he was enjoined to busy himself in praising and glorifying Allah by Whose bounty he had been able to accomplish such a great task, and should implore Him to forgive whatever failings and frailties he might have shown in the performance of the service. Here, by a little consideration one can easily see the great difference that there is between a Prophet and a common worldly leader. If a worldly leader in his own lifetime is able to bring about a revolution, which has the aim and objective of his struggle, this would be an occasion for exultation for him. But here we witness quite another phenomenon. The Messenger of Allah in a brief space of 23 years revolutionized an entire nation as regards its beliefs, thoughts, customs, morals, civilization, ways of living, economy, politics and fighting ability, and raising it from ignorance and barbarism enabled it to conquer the world and become leader of nations; yet when he had accomplished this unique task, he was not enjoined to celebrate it but to glorify and praise Allah and to pray for His forgiveness, and he busied himself humbly the implementation of that command.

Lesson & Reason:

This surah teaches us to embrace humility and gratitude, acknowledging that all victories come from Allah's blessings. It reminds us of the importance of seeking His guidance and relying on Him during times of triumph or hardship. Surah Nasr was revealed to tell the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) that Islam will win and that many people will enter the religion. The surahs show the prophet that his mission succeeded. Surah Nasr was revealed to tell the prophet Muhammad (peace and blessing be upon him) that Islam will win and that many people will enter the religion. The surahs show the prophet that his mission succeeded. Then Allah asks the prophet (peace and blessing be upon him) to Glorify him and ask for forgiveness as a sign of gratitude.

Topics of Surah Al-Nasr

Ø  The fulfillment of God’s promise to open Mecca.

Ø  The entry of people into Islam in multitudes after the conquest of Mecca.

Ø  The consolation of the Prophet of God with the approach of death.

Benefits:

1. A promise of victory and conquest: Surah Al-Nasr promises victory and conquest for the believers. It reminds us that God will grant victory to His Messenger and the believers in the end and that He will achieve victory for their religion and the cause of truth.

2. Achieving goals and great things: Surah Al-Nasr teaches us the importance of patience and perseverance in the way of God until the desired goal is achieved. It reinforces the confidence that efforts made in the way of good and truth will bear fruit and achieve dazzling success.

3. Promoting contentment and humility: Surah Al-Nasr teaches us the importance of contentment and humility after achieving success and conquest. It reminds us that when victory comes, we should be humble and grateful to God for His blessing and that we should continue to do good and charity.

4. The strength of faith and reliance: Surah Al-Nasr reinforces the strength of faith and reliance on God. It teaches us that God is the One Who humbles and exalts and that He has the power and ability to achieve victory and superiority over enemies. Therefore, we must rely on God and trust Him in all circumstances.

5. Acceptance of repentance: God accepts the repentance of those who repent. This is in line with the entry of people into Islam in multitudes after the conquest of Mecca. Allah Almighty accepted their repentance and forgave them, even though most of them were in error. They returned to the Prophet (peace be upon him), and this is an encouragement for the servants to repent and return to guidance and correctness.
